Broadway Love: The Scottsboro Boys

Don’t you just love the variety that often comes to Broadway? The Scottsboro Boys is a Broadway based on a true story; nine African American young men were accused of rape in the 1930s. The story itself is sad and reflects a sordid time in American history, but I’m sure the theatrical performance is awesome.

I didn’t get a chance to see it, but the critics have been raving about it. The musical was created by John Kander and Fred Ebb of Chicago and Cabaret fame, so I’m sure it tickled plenty of fantasies. TamikaBelle and I have seen Chicago on Broadway, so I know if someone involved in that production is a part of this musical, then it’s sure to be a treat.

Scottsboro Boys received 12 Tony Award nominations, and a film adaptation is in the works…yipee! TamikaBelle and I love to hear of musicals getting their due credit. We’re art junkies ya know.

Here is some history on the Scottsboro boys.
