Inaugural Art on the Rocks 2011
The ArtBelles took on the Birmingham Museum of Art’s Art on The Rocks in full force. Art on The Rocks is in its 7th season and is an exciting event that attracts art lovers.
ShermikaBelle and I mostly stayed outside and enjoyed the music by Lobotomix. The DJ/rapper was on point! Local B-boys, KIDSINTHECYPHER, were certainly a treat to see. We applaud anyone that’s brave enough to dance in 90+ degree weather. Kudos to ya!
Check the video and read on for more pics!
Food such as queso cheese, Elvis’ rocking banana pudding, philly cheese steak flatbread, and fried okra with a wonderful aioli were served. Even though we are watching these dancer’s figures we had to eat, and are glad we did!
When the sun went down, New Orleans’ very own, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band took over with rocking tunes. TamikaBelle and I had a chance to meet the trumpet player, Efrem, and let’s just say he is very personable! He kept us laughing for about 20 minutes and even gave us belles a detailed history of New Orleans. Here’s our very short video of their music here.
Graffiti artists were in the sculpture pit and patrons were allowed to paint there. ShermikaBelle and I were too afraid to mess up our lovely threads so we declined on the painting aspect.
Art on the Rocks is one of the hottest events to hit Birmingham. TamikaBelle and I are so glad we attended and joined the Junior Patrons. There was plenty for everyone to enjoy. We FINALLY met Georgia Mae‘s Javacia (one of our new fav blogs). We did the infamous scavenger hunt, entered a giveaway for jewelry, sipped on the most divine rosemary martini, and enjoyed the arts. It doesn’t get any better than this for a bangin’ weekend!
Couldn’t make it? Please don’t get your unmentionables in a bunch! This fab event was one of three. AOTR is scheduled rain or shine for July 22 and August 19, 2011. Hope you all buy your ticket and come out to support our beautiful museum!

Thanks for the shout out! I was so glad to finally meet you ladies. Art on the Rocks was so much fun! Great recap.
