Ladies, doesn’t it burn your eyes when a man looks a hot mess?! Fellas, you’ve seen the man with the too tight shirt on. You know the one that has on a shirt so tight that you can count their veins! There’s nothin’ like a well-dressed man–especially one that isn’t afraid to show his personality through his clothing.
How about a new musical for those ArtBLT’ers residing on the west coast? Look no further! Your fave belles have you covered. The Pasadena Playhouse premiered a new musical Twist.
Debbie Allen is the director, and Tamyra Gray of American Idol fame is a performer. You know this should be good right? The official press opening was on June 26, 2011 and you have plenty of time to shimmy to see this before it ends on July 17th.
The creative team should be on point with the scenic and costume design as they have major talent (i.e. have won a lot of purty awards).
The musical plays off Dickens’ Oliver Twist, but puts it own spin on things. It is set in New Orleans. Twist tells the story of a boy who experiences racism, greed, and deceit, but ultimately finds hope and love. Do let us know if you see Twist. And of course, I’m jealous that I cannot see this. The wish fairy needs to step her game up on the plane tickets.
Today marks the 2nd year that Michael Jackson, who was brilliantly known as the “King of Pop,” died. The ArtBelles honor his memory by posting two of our favorite songs. I remember being a little girl and bopping my head to Michael’s music. If you’re in Birmingham, check this exhibition out to see a great photograph of MJ. I don’t care what anyone says-this man changed music forever and transcended boundaries. Too many “musicians” can’t even sing, let alone mesmerize a crowd the way MJ did. His lyrics were fun, thought provoking, and real. May his music forever live on. If you have one, pull out your silver glove and grab your you know what.
What do you get when you combine some of the hottest names in music and the photographers that captured them? Who Shot Rock & Roll, that’s what!
This beautiul exhibition at the Birmingham Museum of Art (June 24-September 18, 2011) not only celebrates musicians, but most importantly, the photographers behind the lens.
The name of the exhibition is slightly misleading as there is a diverse range of musical categories that are represented.
The ArtBelles ooow and ahhhed at photos of hip-hop royalty, rock gods, pop divas, and rockin’ bands. Do you know what the best part was?! We got to see it before everyone else since we are members–you better join today to stay in the know. Pics and more when you read the rest.
5th and York is a pretty cool name huh? I found out about the group from my new obsession–Twitter. The smooth jazz group hails from Charlotte, NC and is comprised of five members. As the ArtBelles always educate, smooth jazz is a type of jazz that is heavily influenced by R&B.
I had the opportunity to review 5th and York’s cd, Nascentum, which lead me on a ride my ears didn’t want to get off of. Nascentum is more than a jazz cd–it incorporates rock, r&b, funk, and bits of soul that make you shake your head in disbelief. Yes, it’s just that diverse ArtBLT’ers.
