Indie Love: Sidewalk Film Festival

Woo hoo! It’s that time again when filmmakers, indie lovers, critics, and bloggers unite for Sidewalk Film Festival. An ArtBelle is giddy like a 9 year old schoolgirl and can’t wait for August 26-28th. Think about all the fun we’ll have in our backyard this weekend! Sidewalk has been going strong since 1999, and in addition to screening great films, is known for their hot parties. The Festival celebrates indie films (over 200 will be shown this weekend) and gives Birmingham a little cultural uumph during the entire weekend. Filmmakers from all over the country have come to Sidewalk to screen their films. The opening night film, “The Innkeepers,” will be held at the Alabama Theater at 8pm. “The Innkeepers” is a spooky film by Ti West that is said to have the swag of old scary movies. Other venues include: Carver Theatre, Hill Arts Center, McWane Science Center, etc. So, you know we’re in for treats, right? Speaking of treats, there will be items for sale such as Sidewalk t-shirts and food from local vendors. Other goodies to expect: a movie poster art gallery, an outdoor stage with live music and an outdoor movie screen. This area is FREE for all so do come out! Click here for the full schedule to map out your weekend. Ticket prices are very affordable and range from $10-$55 for day/weekend passes and $250 for VIP passes. Your favorite belles will be on the scene covering the film festival, so stalk us on Twitter and Facebook to stay in the know. We hope to see you there!

Let’s Jam: Ashford & Simpson

In case you just heard, last night we lost yet another R&B legend: Nick Ashford. We pray that he’s resting in the loving arms of God as we know that he doesn’t have to fight with throat cancer anymore. Let’s remember him for the wonderful music he gave! Here’s a classic that we enjoy! What’s your favorite Ashford & Simpson song?
