Fun of a BAAM!

The beautiful & VERY talented dance company: Devyani

Well, if you read here, then you know that a belle loves some stomp down good music/entertainment–especially if it’s something we can clue the masses in. The ArtBelles were fortunate enough to have the 2nd annual Birmingham Arts and Music Festival (BAAMfest!) located in our very own backyard.

The festival took place in 21 venues across Birmingham last weekend–primarily the Downtown/Southside areas. Different musical genres, dance, and comedy were represented. Read on for the deets & more pics (including N’dambi)!

Friday, Tamika and I kicked off the start of BAAMfest by attending the Women of Soul series at one of Birmingham’s gems, The Alys Stephens Center. We saw SHEI (listen to a song here), an all-female band from our lovely city. The group consisted of a bass guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer, and vocalist. These chicks are bad and we hope that you check them out.

The hot band players of SHEI... These chicks can rock a house!

On Saturday, we hopped around to 8 (YES, EIGHT) different venues. Talk about reliving those long gone college glory days!

Tamika (L), N'dambi, Shermika (R)

Our ears were blessed to hear one of our favorite artists, N’dambi, at the Alys Stephens Center. Her voice is super soulful and has that raw edge that is missing from most music. N’dambi was uber sexy in some edgy tights, black open toed heels, white sequined tank, and a jeweled crop jacket/sheath. Her performance was ELECTRIFYING!

She was gracious enough to chat with us for a few moments, too. She’s a beautiful & humble entertainer! And guess what? Her background singers can actually SING! Tamika spoke to the male background singer and couldn’t stop talking about how nice he was.

And here’s the scoop: N’dambi told us that she is working on her new album which will be released next year. Talk about an ArtBelle being excited!!! Check out her tweet to us below!

She was dancin'! Loved EVERY second!!

She performed songs including: “Ooo Baby”, “What it Takes”, “Can’t Hardly Wait”, “What’s Wrong with You”, &  “Ode to Nina” to name a few. This chick is on our top 5 list of artists you should know. If you have been sleepin’ on N’dambi, then it’s time to wake up…NOW (we know you’ve at least heard this song).

H-O-T B'ham Band--Kids Your Age

We got tuned to a new band, Kids Your Age, who rocked out the Metro Bar! Y’all know us…if we don’t like something we will not sugar coat it. The entertainment at BAAMfest was on point. We didn’t find one act that we didn’t like (except for one that left us looking sideways)!

The beauty of BAAMfest is that if you don’t want to watch a whole set, you can simply hop on a bus and they will take you to another venue. ArtBLT’ers, we hope that you will attend this festival next year.

If you went what did you like most? We’d love to hear from you. Now, check out the rest of the beautiful pics that Tamika took!

The smooth & timeless Birmingham Heritage Jazz Band (they were excellent)!

Tamika taking on the city!

The ArtBelles are two sisters (not twins) born and raised in Birmingham, AL that enjoy traveling around the globe and finding new things…all while bickering ’til the sun comes up. These sisters share the cutest doggie on the planet and are always looking for their next adventure. Want to know what the best part is? They are willing to share it with you! The ArtBelles love quick jaunts, good reads, stellar food, and all things indie. ArtBLT’s goal is to create a deep seated love and appreciation for art and the artists that help make the world a happier place.
