An Evening with the Neelys’

If you asked me to describe a couple with James and Florida type love (one of my fav shows: “Good Times”), I would have to say The Neelys hands down! Their food is divine, but their spirit is even sweeter.  If you truly know the sis and I, then you’re aware that we adore Pat and Gina like nobody’s business. We even watched their road show on Food Network. Can you believe many people don’t know what I am talking about when I reference it? Silly them, not me!

We had the chance to hear their lecture as well as shake hands (ooh wee) and chat with them (aahh). Pat and Gina Neely come into our homes every day, but thanks to the beautiful Atlanta History Center (AHC) we got to spend over 1.5 hours with them in person. It was truly the perfect event to start our week off. We belles still can’t believe we got to meet them!!!

The AHC staff was super friendly and greeted us with warm smiles. If you have never been to the AHC–GO. There’s so much beauty/history to experience, and it has become a fave place of ours. The staff was eager to help answer questions about items for purchase. Guests could buy cookbooks and cute little piggies made in North Georgia. They were sooo cute but frugal Shermika couldn’t spend $35 on any pig unless it was on her plate.

Attendees were allowed to taste some of the food from the Neelys new cookbook. The Viking Cooking School made the scrumptious treats, and their staff was so nice!

If you follow us on twitter (@artblt), then you already know that Shermika, my deal-seeking queen, pre-ordered our Neelys Celebration Cookbook before it went on sale. We tweeted a picture of our books a couple of weeks ago. It’s so funny because it arrived as we were watching their show! Talk about perfect timing.

Overall, Pat and Gina were funny, engaging and encouraging to many of the guests in the audience during the Q&A segment. The moderator, Angie Mosier asked such wonderful questions that Neelys fans wanted to know. The Neelys talked about their love for food, family and Memphis. The love they exuded on stage was phenomenal!

We are sending the wish fairy a special request to allow us to cook with the Neelys. If you don’t have one of their two cookbooks you should head to the bookstore now (after you read this of course)! The Neelys Celebration Cookbook has beautiful pictures and the stories they share are spectacular. Gina and Pat made us really feel like: you are always welcome…down home with the Neelys!   2. Very nice that you were able to meet the Neely’s and have your cookbooks signed. I must confess, I did see their show once but, I didn’t watch it all the way through. I don’t watch cooking shows often, and if I do it is something like cupcake wars or bake a cake battle.

  3. Thanks ladies! @Sharon- Some people love cooking shows and many don’t and that’s cool. Being from the South food plays a big role in my family. We love Food Network/Cooking Channel and even let the dog watch if he’s been a good boy. ;0) Thanks for commenting!
