Tête-à-tête Thursdays: Spring Fashion Trends with Arlene Goldstein
Isn’t spring such a fun time of the year? Bold colors, statement pieces and all the fun in the cool breeze makes the season right. We had the opportunity to interview Arlene Goldstein, Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction at Belk, Inc.
With over 25 years in the fashion industry, we had to ask her about you guessed it…spring fashion and trends. The gist of what was shared with us is that a belle should use jewelry, makeup, purses, etc. to add color to your spring wardrobe. Read on, so you can get your spring wardrobe ready.
What are the trends for the spring?
I’m really in love with lace. It’s so dainty. Color is also very important. Bright colors work well and make your entire outfit pop. Color blocking is big this season and we have lots of items at Belk that work well. A statement coat is a must. Similar to a trench coat, a statement coat for the spring is perfect. It adds a nice feminine touch and can jazz up any wardrobe.
Arlene says that purses are a perfect way to add a pop of color–especially small mini bags. Pictured below is Tamika’s fave Coach (EVER–thus far) bag. When she saw it, she went directly to Coach to purchase it (Belk sells it too) for the spring because she said it made her feel “happy” and it “spoke” to her!
What shoe should a spring-ready belle have?
A nude shoe definitely makes a statement! It goes with everything and adds a nice polished look. Bright shoes can instantly liven up an outfit as well.
How do you forecast trends for future seasons–say spring 2013?
Everything that is a trend in the future is something that someone is wearing now. If I see something on the runway in Paris I think that it may be big the next year. In Paris, I saw young men wearing all gray, however, each of them used the color in a different way in their wardrobe. I was amazed. That’s the fun part about fashion. You can tailor it to your individual style.
End of Interview
It was so fun speaking with Mrs. Goldstein and we thank her for her time and expertise. Let us know what are some of the trends/things you’ve added to your wardrobe this spring!
