Alliance Theatre– “Good People” Review

Hey, friends! I hope y’all had a lovely weekend. As you know so well by now, a belle loves the arts. The sis and I had a ball at the Alliance Theatre, a place that we have come to love in our new home of Atlanta. We went to see Good People, which was a Tony Award nominee in 2011.

David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People deals with real people who are flawed, but are as its name suggests, good people. The play centers around Margie, played by Kate Buddeke, who recently lost her job and reconnects with her old boyfriend Mike, graced by Thomas Vincent Kelly.

Although the play revolves around relationships, it has a healthy dose of bingo intertwined. Who in their right mind doesn’t love b-i-n-g-o?! Viewers encounter the relationships Margie has with everyone around her, and how she is left to pick up the pieces after losing her job. In these tough economic times, I am sure people will be able to relate to the plot.

More importantly, topics covered include race, class and the meaning of luck. It makes you reflect, remember and laugh.

The set design was amazing. Collette Pollard you did your thing on the set design! Y’all have to go to this play just to see the house Mike lives in (he’s a doctor). It’s absolutely beautiful. The set in general was very realistic.

Tamika and I thoroughly enjoyed Good People; you have until Feb 10th to see this gem of a play! Please RUN and go see it. All of the actors were wonderful and you will be filled with laughter from start to finish. Wait until you hear about the story of “The Bird!”

The Alliance Theatre never seems to disappoint us with its showings. You can purchase tickets here and while you’re at it, check out what will be showing the remainder of the season.

Expect LOTS of funny, expletives, thick Boston accents, and a darn good time!

Disclosure: We were provided tickets to this play, but as always, our opinions are a belle’s own!

Fab Frugal Finds: Handmade Sale

I hope y’all had a fab weekend. We spent Saturday in Little 5 Points and nearby areas while shopping for cute local finds. This was one of the first weekends where we had a full day to explore and just relax. So you know a belle was excited. The weather was perfect and we were dressed to the nines to bask in all our weekend glory!

The sis and I were pleased to have ran across a cute little shop called the beehive. It is the sweetest little shop you’ll ever see. The entire store is filled with items that were handmade by local Atlanta artists. They sell everything from baby items, to stylish holders for your electronics. I bought quite a few pieces of jewelry, but wanted to show you these three cuties above. The bracelet (lush designs) was $3, the ceramic magnet was $3.50, and the earrings were $14 (iram-inal designs).

Perfect color for my spring wardrobe!
My bird looks hot, huh? He fits right in!

They had a fab sale, right? Y’all know we live for a fierce sale. If you are in the area they still have some lovely items that need to be had. As always, support local artists and shop ’til you drop!!!! Check back soon to see what else is in the bag…

Until next time, sweet friends.

Spring into Style 2013

Well, it’s cold (finally) in Atlanta, but a belle is already planning her Spring wardrobe. I mean, what fashionista isn’t?!

The sis and I were invited to attend Belk’s Spring preview (read fall 2012 here) and were giddy with excitement by all the beautiful things we saw. The uber fashionable Arlene Goldstein, Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, presented on all the new trends.

I apologize we didn’t tweet our looks out that day. If I must say so myself, a belle was super stylish for the event–Tamika even had on 3″ heels!!!

As you all know, we are deeply proud of being Southern. We love shopping at Belk and are always excited with the quality of clothing they have. Without further adieu, let’s go into what’s going to be hot for the Spring. As Goldstein says, GO BOLD OR GO HOME! It’s all about the color!

Chunky necklaces are here to stay, so run out and buy them. Get you a nasty neckpiece. Don’t be afraid of BRIGHT colors when it comes to your jewelry. As the sis likes to say, accessories can make an outfit pop.

For starters, one of the big colors for the Spring is green. Wear green, but don’t be green with envy!

We have some similar shoes we’ll be posing in soon!

Peplum is going to be huge for the season! It is NOT going out of style. You can wear peplum shirts, jackets, dresses, etc. Trust, that Tamika and I will be prancing around town in peplum my darlings.

We’ll talk about more Spring styles in the coming weeks and show you what we’re rocking.  Trust that you’ll want to see a belle in her springtime attire. Stay tuned!

Are you ready for the Spring?

Book Love: SHOEGASM An Explosion of Cutting-Edge Design

Kobi Levi’s “Coffee” shoes. Can you see it pouring out of the cup?!
Yay for our 2nd post in 2013 that deals with fashion! Hooollla! 🙂 This book I am about to tell y’all about had this belle swooning over some of the most theatrical, unique and sexy designs known to woman. Clare Anthony’s SHOEGASM An Explosion of Cutting-Edge Design is a must-have for any shoe loving belle. I repeat: YOU MUST GET THIS BOOK. It’s going to make all of your friends green if you know what I mean. The book is filled with an intricate history about heels and who wore them.
Mihai Albu added a heel to the toes on the booties to the left & the shoe on the right is ONE shoe. Could you walk in these?
I’ve seen shoes that made me say “there is NO way I could walk in these.” The extreme shoes we’ve all seen a time or two have been around since the pharaohs rocked them. Did y’all know that in the 16th century heels came to us fab Western peeps from the Middle East by way of male horseback riders who wore them to keep their feet in the stirrups? Yep, thank those men and their imagination, honey.
Andreia Chaves’ “Invisible”
You need to see the Madonna shoe. It comes with a wig and microphone! Are you a Lady Gaga fan? I know I am! The shoes she wore in her Born This Way video are featured in the book, too. They are knee-high boots that have toes that point both forward and backward. SHOEGASM is filled with over 20 fierce shoe designers including, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Charlotte Olympia, and MORE. Don’t take my word for it. Buy yourself a ‘just because’ gift and scream and shout when you see these beautiful designs. You can buy the book from Amazon.
Kobi Levi’s “Miao” (cats) & “Swan”
*This book was sent to us for review. As always, a belle’s opinion is her own.

New Year, New Beauty

The ArtBelles with FIERCE Master Make-up Artist Yolanda Aguayo! She beat my face, right?! 🙂
Happy New Year, y’all!!!! We are so blessed to have made it through another year. *does a quick happy dance* Yes, honey!!!! We are excited to see what 2013 has in store for a belle and YOU. How did you spend your NYE? The sis and I headed to Midtown to mingle and get pampered at our sweet friend LaToya’s Beauty Escape Makeup Bar. Pop-up beauty bars are the new “it” happenings and you know I love makeup so I was all in. Guests were treated to tasty small bites, foot/back/neck massages, cocktails (they had a Georgia peach one that was the, makeup applications, and more. This was the perfect event to start NYE off in style. There were plenty of belles there to have a great time before heading to church, a club, or the bed to bring the new year in. With makeup:

We came with our naked faces, fierce heels (and bags) to bring in the new year right! BEMB didn’t disappoint and is why we LOVE our new city–there’s ALWAYS something to do. What Shermika and I loved the most is that there were vendors selling super cute products that we can’t wait to share. The necklace I rocked was bought from a vendor by the name of Purty. Monica, the owner, is the sweetest belle so you know we had to shop with her (follow her on twitter). BEMB always host these pop-up beauty bar events, so be sure to follow them to stay in the know!! Check out my necklace below along with our other fab photos:

Be Spoiled Natural Body Products smelled divine & the owner was really sweet!
There was plenty of room to sit and converse with friends old & new!
The makeup artists were working hard!

Told you she has beautiful items. Check out Purty NOW!

Go check out Yolanda if you need a makeup artist for various events. She is the sweetest soul & is patient/knowledgeable. Did I tell you she’s a beast with the makeup?! Stop by her site or call her at: 404.808.0473. Hotness!!!

Y’all know we LOVE to shop! Holla!!
Who does this in 4″ heels? ONLY the sis!
Our sweet friend LaToya! This is her fab business AND we adore ANYTHING fashion/beauty related. Fun, fun, FUN way to ring in 2013!!!
Here are the makeup tips I promised:
WHO is this chick?! Love it!

  • Choose a skin care regime that fits your schedule and stick with it
  • If you’ve never tried lashes try them (I did)! Practice makes perfect, so, start with cheaper lashes and then work your way up to more expensive ones
  • Eye shadow should be patted on the lid and then blended well
  • The 5 essential makeup brushes all you belles should have from Mac: #224, #190, #303, #109, #212
  • If you have thin eye brows (like me–shaved them off as a kid and the rest is history. LOL!) use a thin pencil to fill in and concealer to create an arch
Again, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you get all that you wish for and MORE. This is a new year of beauty and friends. Whether changing your outside or inside beauty–make it fab!
Love ya & thanks so much to all of our fab readers/viewers. We thank each and EVERY one of you. Cheers to 2013!!!!!!!!
Check out Beauty Escape’s website for future events.
