Top 5 Tunica Local Eats

If you’ve been hangin’ with a belle for a minute then you know that the sis & I love to visit new places all while enjoying some of their yummy eats. Recently we explored Tunica Mississippi & had a ball. As usual, we got out & played where the locals play.

Click here to see us discuss Tunica on the news!

Today I’ll focus on the delish food, but the next post will feature the must-see spots to experience. Don’t fret. This post won’t be too long, but I do want you to know why these 5 Tunica hot spots for tasty eats stood out. Let’s get started? ‘kay! First up…

Blue & White Restaurant

First. Look at Shermika lookin’ like some game show host displaying a prize. I love this pic! 🙂 This cute lil diner spot was roughly a 20 minute drive from our hotel. It’s on Route 61 & has been in existence since the ’20’s, YES, you read right, honey. The food is freshly prepared by cooks who actually love to plate up 70+years of southern style cooking traditions.

We stopped at the Blue & White Restaurant for breakfast and weren’t disappointed. For our appetizer (yep we’re rebels & had an app for breakfast!), we had their homemade doughnuts. One word: Siiiiiinful!!! They will have you sayin’ “Krispy Kreme who?!?” We loved them so much that we picked up a dozen to take home to our older sis & nephew. Needless to say they wished we had brought them more. Let’s head on over to breakfast!

I had a fluffy Belgium waffle with cheese grits & crispy bacon. The sis had their 61 Hobo breakfast which is basically ooey gooey cheesylicious (I just made that up, but almost positive it’s been heard before) goodness of mouthwatering onions, eggs, fresh hash browns, sausage, & biscuits. It’s enough to share unless you’ve worked up a massive appetite. Trust me. It’s delish!

Told ya we picked up a dozen! 🙂

Cafe Marie

We stopped here at Cafe Marie for lunch one day for a quick bite. The restaurant  is quaint, homey, & the service was excellent. I had a cheeseburger & Shermika had a patty melt. We both had their hand cut fries with our meals. Their tea was quite tasty too! Be sure to call to see what’s on their menu before going because a lot of what they serve is based on what’s in season in this farm town. We were told that the menu changes.

Chicago Steakhouse

On our 1st night we had a late reservation for dinner at this fab steakhouse located inside the beautiful Gold Strike Hotel. The sis & I tried everything from scallops to truffle fries to a table-made dessert. Check out our Instagram for the video! Shermika had an enormous crab cake that she adored & I had a med-well filet mignon with broccoli. Love wine? The Chicago Steakhouse’s wine selection is huge! All the goodness we tasted & witnessed is below.

The Hollywood

This little spot is a cutie. Our server was the sweetest & the decor was even sweeter. We loved the tree limbs with white lights. Even “A Time to Kill” author, John Grisham, loved them enough to include this cafe in his book.

Though the restaurant is casual, it has a sort of cozy/intimate feel. If you love pickles as much as I, then you can surely raise a glass to this fine establishment. The Hollywood Cafe is the birthplace of the fried pickle. That’s right. Mississippi is a foodie trailblazer! Their crispy lightly battered pickles are talked about all over town so you know we didn’t hesitate to try them out! Score, y’all!!!

My sister had filet mignon & I had grilled catfish. Catfish is the premiere fish of this town so don’t go there lookin’ for anything other than this. Got me? Good!

SouthBound Pizza

Everything at this eatery was prepared with fresh local ingredients. The homemade pita chips were slightly salty & crunchy. We had enough pizza to feed an army. This pizza is DIVINE. Take your leftovers back to your hotel & have them warm it for you for breakfast. LOVED. EVERY. CHEESEY. BITE!!!! Don’t forget to sign their wall.

Top 5 places to visit in Houston

photo (25)

Y’all already know that we visited too many places to create a list. We’ve come up with a slim few places that stuck out & thought that you should visit when in H-town. It goes without saying to visit downtown Houston. There is so much art, food, & culture in the heart of the city. Check out our list below!!

Texas 330

The Beer Can House

The sis & I cruised to triple 2 Malone St. to see one of Houston’s unique treasures. We found out about it after doing a lil’ readin’. This house is made of cans & is not only neat to see in person, but the hanging cans make for fab built in wind chimes that sound oh so sweet when the wind is blowing.

Texas 335

Texas 332

It has been a staple in the community for decades & was created by a man who grew up during the Great Depression; (they believed in salvaging everything) & this beer can house is proof. You can find some more interesting info on the house here!

A (ANY) Wine Vineyard

We drove over 2 hours outside of Houston (Brenham to be exact) to visit this particular vineyard. The drive alone was beautiful. Thinking about the countryside makes me smile. We saw cattle, corn, horses & lovely pastures.  A belle won’t be revealing the name of the one we visited (shaking my head), but there are several to choose from.

Though slightly irritated with the owners, Shermika & I enjoyed a wine tasting, & a walk/few jumps in the vineyard. We’ve learned to take the bad with the good & enjoyed the moment. Our 3 glasses of wine didn’t hurt the situation either!!

This concrete art is 30 Ft. Tall, y’all!!!

Houston native, David Adickes is the artist/creator of these B-EAUTIFUL gigantic statues. After passing a few huge statues on I-45 we did a little research & ended up at his studio. You will find all types of statue heads & MORE. To the left of this “We <3 Houston ” piece are trees made out of some sort of cloth & they are very colorful. Make sure you have a gander at them when you visit this site. Preeeety!!!

The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

First, these pics don’t do this wall ANY justice. Period! It’s beautiful & refreshing on a hot TX day. This is the perfect place to walk off some good old TX eats while enjoying the outdoors or a picnic. Don’t believe us? You’ll see plenty of peeps at this site enjoying the weather, shade & more. This wall is located right next to the Galleria Mall in Houston’s Uptown District. This mall has an ice skating rink indoors & is work the visit too.

A Farm

This lavender farm was about 2 hours or so outside of Houston, but too is worth the drive. If you love lavender as much as these belles then you’ll love this farm & the cute little shop that’s there too. It’s filled with all sorts of lavender goods & handmade jewelry. You know a belle did some shopping, right?! 🙂 If lavender doesn’t suit your fancy, then head to a farm of your liking. There are plenty to pick from. It is Texas ya know.

Have you visited any place fun this summer? Been to any of these hot spots we’ve listed? We want to hear!

Welcome to Houston!

Texas 067

Hi friends! We’ve gotten quite a few emails asking where I’m at since I’ve been a little MIA on the blog and Fox 6 lately. As mentioned here, I’m living in Houston for a short while, but will be back in Atlanta soon! Tamika has been picking up my slack :), but I try to make up for it by tweeting a little.

A belle has been having a ball in Houston! I got the treat of my lil old life when Tamika and the mom came to visit me recently. This post will mark the first in our series of posts regarding our sisterly adventure. Y’all know how we roll!

That’s actually myself and NOT the sis–LOL!!!

H-Town welcomed us properly with our stay in Downtown’s Hotel ICON. Once a former bank, this luxurious hotel boasts an old vault, iconic restaurant (with a to die for breakfast buffet), breath taking Grecian design, and super comfy rooms. Since I’m talking about their breakfast check out what we had below. We have a chair waiting just for you!

We loved the color scheme outside our hotel room and inside. When you check them out do go and look at the restroom on the main floor. Its Asian theme is so lovely. Our room was cozy, yet roomy and the walls were adorned with pics of cows–only in Texas.

Texas 001

Hotel ICON‘s bathroom is very spacious. It has a tub and shower which is great for days when two belles need to get ready at the same time. Right?!

Staying in the heart of Downtown Houston is perfect while touring. The sis and I were close to everything, with lots of cool joints within walking distance. We let valet take the car and we headed out to several areas in the city on foot.

More to come next week in regards to this FUN photo!

At night we roamed the streets of H-Town and even checked out this quaint spot that Beyoncé and Jay Z ate at recently called Sparrow Bar. Check out some of what we sipped & chowed down on there.

Exploring King Ranch

Hi friends! It seems so long since a belle last wrote but I’m BACK! I’ve been busy squaring away some things, but missed y’all dearly. I’m currently living in Houston, which means Tamika & I will have more exciting things to share! You’ll see me playing around the city and posting on all the fun I encounter along the way.

On Monday, I drove to Kingsville to visit Kings Ranch, which is about 4 hours away from Houston. Kings Ranch has been open over 150 years and has all kinds of wildlife on the ranch. Cattle, deers, peacocks, you name it–I probably saw it!

The Kings Ranch has a cool museum where I got to see some old brands (pictured above) that were used on animals. The museum really takes you back in time and I loved every minute of it! In addition, I saw some classic looking cars, and y’all know me likey vintage! If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll see pics I posted of the live peacocks. I’d never seen one in person so pardon my ignorance…hehe! The sis laughs when I say ‘live peacock!’  Cool fact: there are over 356 species of birds at the ranch!

While touring the ranch, I felt a sense of peace. The place is MASSIVE! Land goes on for miles and miles. The ranch is one of the largest in the world and has over 825,000 acres! I had so much fun just looking at all the green space. It literally took my breath away! For those who like to shop (like yours truly), Kings Ranch also boasts a saddle shop that sells all sorts of leather goods and other items. Overall, I had a ball hanging out at the ranch. I even imagined myself as a dainty cowgirl!

Love, Peace & Dunwoody Pt. 3 of 3

Well, a belle already told y’all how great Dunwoody is, but did we tell you how it’s the perfect place for a girlfriends getaway? The sis and I went to Dunwoody to relax and unwind, and we did just that–along with some real good eating! Dunwoody is a charming and quiet city that is replete with great dining, excellent shopping (Perimeter Mall was a hop and a skip away from our hotel) and spas. Yeah, you may ooh and ahh now.

Caramel tea…talk about delish!

In the heart of Dunwoody, you’ll find a little place called Cafe Intermezzo. Filled with European flair, lots of sweet treats that will expand your middle, and the aromatic smell of coffee, this cafe will welcome you. The sis and I lunched on paninis, sandwiches and tea (aren’t we just classy?!), before indulging in some retail therapy at Perimeter Mall.

If you’re touring Dunwoody with your girls, make plans to get the Girlfriends Getaway Card, which will allow you to save 20% at local businesses. A frugal belle LOVED this card!

Did Tamika do good with the pinky? She’s high society.

Tamika had a turkey and cucumber croissant with raspberry jam and it was so good! My food was okay, which meant poor Tamika was left slapping my fingers off of her yummy lunch. We enjoyed the experience, although the service was lacking. You win some and lose some, right? I am still dreaming of her sandwich though…

After getting our grub on, we headed over to the Auburn Avenue Research Library on you guessed it, Auburn Avenue, to view their revolving art exhibits. We were particularly interested in seeing Simone Green’s work, but ended up discovering two other talented artists: Bryan Meltz and Alex Lucas.

Pictures following a family from Africa to Clarkston, GA by Bryan Meltz

Meltz’s photography was very interesting. We enjoyed reading and seeing beautiful portraits of a family on a journey. Could you imagine leaving Africa for GA? Lucas’ work is bold and simply beautiful. Tamika and I was drawn to the colors and the women in his works. We spent the most time looking at all of his paintings and let’s just say a belle wish she could afford some of his fab work. Can you believe that Lucas was once a weatherman and make-up artist? Talk about a businessman!!

“Dottie in Gold”

The beautiful thing about Dunwoody is that it is so close to Atlanta, which allowed us to see all of these beautiful works of art. Check out our pics below to see all the fun we had after having a very tasty breakfast at the Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites the following day.

The day was started right with this meal. That muffin was good, y’all!!
Tamika let me try some of her breakfast egg-roll and I was hooked.

Duckworth, a very nice employee at Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites, entertained Tamika and I while we ate some of the best breakfast foods. Thanks for your kindness and laughs!!! 🙂

We walked breakfast off that morning at the DNC!

After eating and having a little comedy for breakfast, the sis and I decided to visit Dunwoody Village, which is known for their Williamsburg architecture. It is truly a site to see…it’s almost as if you are transported back in town. While touring the city (with Starbucks in hand), we stopped at the Dunwoody Nature Center where we became one with nature, and had a little fun.

Thank photographer Tamika for bringing this gorgeous shot to you. If you’re touring the Atlanta/Dunwoody area, definitely make a stop to the nature center. It is so peaceful and really is a fun place to relax–whether by yourself or with your girls. We went on a rainy day, but it was still beautiful.

Check me out! How y’all like the purple?!
Fashion first! Tamika is color rocking this lace shirt. Comfort meets style!
Who said heaven on Earth doesn’t exist? It’s in Dunwoody!
Such a beautiful home and a must-see historic treasure in Dunwoody.
